| Family Members of Brazil's Air Tragedy Insist US Pilots Turned Off ...
It cannot be said that they did not disconnect the transponder intentionally, since they assumed the risk of piloting an unfamiliar airplane, even its FMS," states Gujthar. "So, with all this, we want to know which other devices from the Legacy were turned off, besides the transponder and the TCAS, which we know of from the investigations. After all this, how can the civil aviation authorities claim that there is no indication of intentional disconnection? Their decision to pilot an unfamiliar aircraft, not knowing their equipment and international manuals, is an indication that they knew they could endanger the lives of the crew and other people." After the accident, at 19h56min54s UTC (Coordinated Universal Time), a conversation between the crew took place, while they tried to establish contact with Braslia's control tower.
Fancy a sickie? See your chemist
It's amazing how many sickies are attached to weekends and public holidays.I was brought up, that you always went to work even if sick, then went home if it got worse. Often, it just got better as my body exercised. NO sickies on Gallipoli, or at Tobruk, or along the Kokoda Trail, or in Vietnam - unless you were totally incapacitated !Back then, BLUDGER was the worst insult you could call a bloke, now it's become a comical byword. Man trapped in grain bin dies
Emergency personnel tried to rescue a Tonica man trapped in a Utica soybean bin Friday morning but were unable to save his life. Harold Paul Beenenga, 56, was working at Utica Elevator and helping load a semi when the accident occurred around 9 a.m. It remained unclear how Beenenga became trapped. However, Utica police chief Joe Bernardoni said Beenenga and co-worker Jerry Carey had portable radios and had been communicating back and forth, but lost contact while Beenenga was in the bin, approximately 10 feet off the ground by Bernardoni's estimate. Workers called into the bin trying to get a response from Beenenga, but there was no reply or sign of life. .
Realtors Search for Solutions to Dwindling Water Supplies
LAS VEGAS, Nov. 13 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Realtors build communities, and managing, developing and protecting our nation's water resources is key to supporting the current pattern of economic growth and development which supports those communities. For regions like Las Vegas, which is hosting the 2007 REALTORS Conference & Expo this week, water, or the lack thereof, is of particular concern. The western United States, which is one of the fastest growing regions and also one of the driest, appears to be the most challenged by water shortages. "As the leading advocate for private property rights, homeownership and housing issues, NAR supports land use and environmental regulations that help manage growth smartly to sustain water resources and also meet the growing needs of local businesses and residents," said National Association of Realtors President Pat V.
High-pressure Storm: Norm Roberts feels heat as St. John's flounders
The team is 10-16 after Saturday's 30-point loss at Duke, and a dialogue about the program's future is percolating. In high school gyms, on the talk-radio airwaves and among St. John's most loyal and influential supporters, the question is asked whether the school will stick with Roberts or make a change. A determination probably is still weeks away and the value of Roberts' successes and failures will be measured by the university president, the Rev. Donald J. Harrington, and athletic director, Chris Monasch. "I'm not willing to pass judgment on a season until it's a complete season," Monasch said. "We knew our record would probably take a step back this year. The criteria we're looking for is whether there's a good core of players to build on." Roberts has removed the tarnish from the sex scandal and the subsequent revelation about illegal payments to a player.
Brooks Global-Lok Sets a New Quality Standard in Security Seals
LIVINGSTON, N.J., Nov. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Over the past two years, E.J. Brooks has been conducting market research as part of its new product development initiative to further improve the performance and feature levels of mechanical cable seals that are used in cross border and intermodal use around the world. Being the only security seal manufacturer that is a validated member of C-TPAT as well as a strong believer in independent testing by a third party ISO 17712 accredited lab, global compliancy is Brooks number one objective. However, the logistics community raised other issues that were considered in product design and we are now announcing a breakthrough in mechanical cross border security seal protection. E.J. Brooks is proud to announce the introduction of the Global-Lok, a high security cable seal that is not only ISO 17712 compliant, but exceeds the ISO 17712 required minimum tensile strength level by 82% with over 4,000 lbs of pressure necessary to pull it apart.
