The explosion left the road littered with body parts and wounded survivors and blasted out courthouse windows.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility, though Pakistan's government has blamed earlier bombings on Islamic extremists linked to Al Qaeda.
President Pervez Musharraf called the blast "dastardly" and insisted he would "continue the fight against terrorism and extremism" in the country, Pakistani media reported.
According to a recent report by the Pak Institute for Peace Studies, an independent think tank, Pakistan has seen a sharp acceleration in suicide attacks over the past year, with 60 explosions killing at least 770 people in 2007. The bombing campaign has intensified since Musharraf's bloody routing of Islamic militants holed up in Islamabad's Red Mosque in July.

Polls show a dead-heat, and Romney's campaign is weighing whether to begin running negative ads against Huckabee. Fred Thompson, the former Tennessee senator, also is trying to compete in Iowa; he's not a factor in New Hampshire. Should Romney win Iowa's caucuses on Jan. 3, he'd come into New Hampshire in a commanding position and with a strong ground-game; Huckabee's candidacy could be over. But were Romney to lose in Iowa, GOP strategists say he would be wounded but still able to compete in next-up New Hampshire on Jan. 8 because of the foundation he's laid. If Huckabee triumphs in Iowa, these strategists say, it's unclear whether he can leverage that success into financial and organizational strength in the narrow window between Iowa and New Hampshire.
Cary private equity fund pours money into film and TV projects
While the Triangle is hardly Tinseltown, local residents are throwing a surprisingly respectable amount of money at film and TV entertainment projects. One such investor is 43-year-old Dale Scales, co-managing director of a small private equity fund put together by Cary's OBX Capital Group, whose other managing director is Reed Clevenger. Scales' fund totals $33 million and invests in a variety of ventures, from technology to manufacturing to entertainment. One project is "Bar Starz," a $9 million film that's fully funded by OBX Capital and is co-produced by Scales and his company. .
EFI Inks Licensing Agreement for Paid Inc.'s Patented Online Shipping ...
BOSTON & FOSTER CITY, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- EFI, the world leader in customer-focused digital printing innovation, and Paid, Inc. (OTCBB:PAYD) announced today that the two companies have signed a license agreement that enables EFI to integrate Paid's real-time online shipping calculation technology into its PrinterSite order system via an application protocol interface (API). The licensing agreement with EFI marks the first API integration since the United States Patent and Trademark Office issued the patent for portions of Paid's online shipping calculation technology in January 2008. Under the annual renewable contract, EFI will pay Paid, Inc. an annual licensing fee that will allow EFI's system to access Paid's AuctionInc server to calculate or recalculate shipping costs in real time for customer orders.
Stone the crows, a pot-headed pop
Not that I'm suggesting drugs are the sole domain of the young and hapless; it's just that something is amiss when someone who qualifies for discount public transport is an integral component in maintaining the market share of BBQ Shapes and ice cream. I don't want to appear ageist - but the reality is I guess I am, as it is not only the pot-head pop who has disconcerted me, but more that a lovely if misguided 22-year-old lad recently hit on me. Normally this would be an huge ego boost for a 36-year-old. But my initial reaction was "I own wine older than you", followed closely by, "If this were the Edwardian era, I would be old enough to be your mother". Ego boost aside, when these thoughts pop into your head, it's reasonable to assume no amount of mental colour and movement is going to distract you from the logical progression to an internal monologue on Zimmer frames and incontinence pads.
