As ISPs choke file-sharing, users look elsewhere

RapidShare and MegaUpload are among the most used file-hosting services. Together, the two sites account for 9 percent of all Internet traffic in the Middle East and 4 percent in Germany, according to iPoque, a company based in Leipzig, Germany, that specializes in traffic-management appliances for ISPs.

The percentages are significant since over the last year usage of file-sharing sites, which number in the dozens, has surged, said Klaus Mochalski, iPoque's CEO. The sites offer potentially faster download speeds for sharing files than peer-to-peer networks.

"These Web pages are tremendously popular," Mochalski said.

The services let users upload a file and then share a link, called a direct download link, in e-mails and Web forums for others to download the content.

Can Steve Jobs convince jailbreakers to walk the straight and narrow?

Apple Industry

So, Apple has released an SDK for the iPhone and iPod touch. Pretty soon the web will be flooded with quality apps which will be a click (and in many cases, a few bucks) away. But is this enough to convince jailbreakers (both the developers who rely on it now and consumers who have chosen to jailbreak their iPhone) to walk the straight and narrow?

See, while an SDK and new apps for the iPhone has generated some good press for Apple today, I can't help but notice that developers have managed to accomplish an awful lot without Apple's help.

Treo 650 Problems?

I am able use many of the apps I had on my M515. I've added others that have worked great. My biggest issue is that if i have the phone on (active, but not in use) and I am using the real player or audible.com player, they freeze up when I go into a celluar dead-zone and don't come back until I'm out. Why the two functions overlap I can't figure. A real annoyance.

Five minutes with the participants of the annual Yanks vs. Canucks ...

Question. Whered the idea come from?

Jim. We had a whole group from Cleveland coming down and a whole group we knew from Ontario. We thought we needed to get them to interact. So, we thought: golf tournament. We wrote the rules the first year, so we did little things to get a mental edge. Wrote Canucks with a K. Stuff like that.

McCain wins Bush backing, bucks

Many are just now beginning to dial up large donors for contributions to Mr. McCain.

"A lot of them have gotten plugged in with us in the last couple of weeks," said Charlie Black, a Republican strategist who is now one of Mr. McCain's top advisers. The Bush endorsement "is message to them that if you're still on the sidelines, you need to help."

More importantly, the McCain team has enlisted Mercer Reynolds, the finance chairman for Mr. Bush's re-election campaign, to help bring in cash.

Mr. Reynolds, who recently said he plans to rebuild his fundraising team, raised nearly $260 million for the president's 2004 bid.

"Mercer's already lined up a lot of the top Bush fundraisers," Mr. Black said.

Republicans have traditionally far outraised Democrats in presidential campaigns, but the opposite has been true this cycle.

Upon getting her feet wet in the competitive U.S. music scene, Cinnamon Brown envisions herself performing with Atlanta based, Hip-Hop sensation T.I., "I like his energy, lyrics and style," says Cinnamon.

Although she has penned songs for Universal Music Publishing, Cinnamon Brown feels that the time has come for her to go beyond Europe to share her gift with the world. Cinnamon Brown is the real deal -- her determination, infectious energy and passion will make her the next household name.

An impressive A-List gathering of entertainers, from Anita Baker, Bob Marley, Mary J. Blige, Stevie Wonder, and Donny Hathaway to Busta Rhymes has influenced Cinnamon Brown.

When she's not writing songs for her debut CD or for Universal Music Publishing, Cinnamon Brown volunteers her time with young girls, empowering them to be leaders and to follow the beat of their drum -- not others.
